To help your child develop mathematical skills you can get them to
- Spot numbers when out and about- car registration numbers, prices in shops etc
- Pairing socks after you have done the washing- helps child recognise patterns and sizes
- Setting the table

- Games such as ludo, snap, chess, snakes and ladders, draughts, memory games
- Planning a TV schedule
- Using real money when out and about
- Football league tables- noting position changes etc

To help children become more interested in language you can get them to
- Write a letter or diary regularly
- Sing nursery rhymes and well known songs
- Write TV or film reviews
- Learn a poem
- Email family and friends (parental supervision needed)
