Physical Well-Being
At North Road Community Primary School, we strongly believe that good mental and physical well being are needed for children to be able to fully access all areas of the curriculum and for effective learning to be able to take place. This is why we ensure that our pupils are active through out the school day. We encourage an active journey to and from school with children travelling on bikes, scooters or enjoying a walk with family and friends. Our Breakfast Club provides a healthy breakfast for pupils and the chance to get active by playing table tennis, using the outdoor wheeled vehicles or enjoying some team games. We encourage all pupils to start the day with some exercise. Playtimes and lunch times also include opportunities to climb, run, play ball games and dance. The school week includes running the Daily Mile, ‘Wake Up, Shake Up’, and yoga along with PE lessons led by class teachers and sports coaches. Children also complete a block of swimming lessons annually during their time in Key Stage Two with the aim of achieving their 25m badge.
All of our pupils have the opportunity to attend one of our active after school clubs which include gymnastics, hockey, football, netball and dance & cheerleading. Each year, we provide new sporting experiences for our pupils to try in order to introduce active hobbies that they might like to take part in outside of school. These have included kick-boxing, boccia, fencing, tennis and yoga workshops.
Our pupils participate in local and regional sporting competitions including The School Games, South Gloucestershire Festival of Youth Dance, Small Schools Football Tournament as well as inter-school sporting competitions.
